The Sanctuary was started to support American Christians, but is open to everyone, regardless of location or faith. SSD is unequivocally in support of other faith traditions, people of color, immigrants, women, workers, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, the ethically non-monogamous, the sexually liberated & sex workers, the disabled community, our indigenous peoples, refugees and victims of genocide, and our planet.

All people are sacred, yet many have been completely alienated from being part of faith community. They have been met with only cruelty, hypocrisy, and exclusion from religious institutions. Here, we recognize and honor the sacred deviant: the revolutionary intersection of divinity, activism, and persistence in the face of oppression.

And every faithful folk and blues musician, tattooed humanitarian, Christ-like queer, kinky Christian, antifascist protestor, anti-war pacifist, socialist demonstrator, political punk, prophetic poet, ex-evangelical and deconstructionist, dual-faith bruja, and all those who have been othered yet still strive for a brighter future.
The goal of the Deviant's Mantra is to be something that can be recited whenever you need it - either as individual, three-line mantras to help you be present in a moment, or collectively as a whole prayer.
